A Magistrate Court sitting at Rijiyar-Zaki area of Kano State has granted N500,000 bail to a popular Hausa singer, Nazir Ahmed Sarkin Waka.

Sarkin Waka was arrested and arraigned before a Magistrate Court by the Kano State Censorship Board over release of two uncensored albums and operating an illegal studio.

He was accused of operating an unlicensed studio from his residence, an act which contravened the laws of the Kano State Censorship Board.

In granting the bail, the presiding judge, Alhaji Aminu Fagge, said the accused must provide three sureties, one of whom must be a Grade Level 12 civil servant in Kano State.

Of the other two sureties, Fagge said one must be a ward head of the area where Sarkin Waka resides and the other must have evidence of three years tax clearance.

Speaking on the matter, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Isma’il Muhammad Na’Abba Afakallah, said the popular Hausa singer violated the laws of the board, hence the arraignment.

He added that the board would not condone any action that goes contrary to its laws, no matter who is involved.

“We will not allow people to just operate the way they like. We have rules and regulations for operating such businesses and anyone who wants to operate such businesses must abide by the rules.

“We are not victimising anyone. Whoever abides by the rules of the board can conduct his business without having any problem,” he said.
