A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano Municipality has sentenced two men, Abdul Bashir Isma’il and Muhammed Abdulmumin, to prison after finding them guilty of conspiracy, unlawful possession of weapons and inflicting injuries on a police officer.

The defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 1 on charges bordering on conspiracy and assault on a police officer identified as Dahiru Muhammed Babba, who was reportedly on official duty at Dorayi Quarters in Kano.

The prosecution told the court that the convicts attacked the officer with dangerous weapons, causing him serious bodily injuries that required hospitalisation.

Prosecuting counsel, Basiru Kabir Aliyu, further informed the court that the defendants were also found in unlawful possession of weapons at the time of their arrest.

During the proceedings, both accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Usaini Hassan Suleiman sentenced the convicts to six months imprisonment without the option of fine for conspiracy.

The court also sentenced them to one year imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine for unlawful possession of weapons, in addition to another six months imprisonment with an option of N30,000 fine for inflicting injuries.

The sentences are to run in accordance with the court’s ruling.
