A Kuje magistrates’ court, Abuja, has sentenced two men, Chinonso Udenze and Keffas Yohana, to six months imprisonment each for stealing a motorcycle valued at N180,000.

The presiding judge, Jim Taribo, sentenced the defendants without an option of fine, adding that the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would-be offenders.

The accused, who are both residents of Sauka area, Kuje, had pleaded guilty to a three count charge of joint act, mischief and theft, on which they were arraigned.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Doris Okoroba, had told the court that Pofi Dapo, who resides at the same area with the convicts reported the case on October 19, 2018, at the Kuje Police Station.

Okoroba said the convicts, conspired and stole the complainant’s Jincheng motorcycle valued at N180,000.

The prosecutor added that the convicts dismantled the motorcycle with the intention of selling the parts before they were caught and handed over to the police.

She said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 79, 327 and 287 of the penal code.
