A Kano Shari’a court sitting at the Hisbah office in Sharada has sentenced one Abdulhamid Ayuba to 21 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of trespassing, theft and issuing threats.
Delivering judgment, Justice Sani Tanimu Sani Hausawa explained that the convict received one year imprisonment or a fine of N35,000 for the first count, six months or a N15,000 fine for the second count, and three months or a N10,000 fine for the third count.
The court further ordered Ayuba to refund the sum of N648,000 which he stole from the complainant’s residence.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Husna Mahmud, informed the court that the convict unlawfully entered the home of Hajiya Saddika Darmanawa, stole N648,000, and left behind a threatening letter warning her that she “would die soon.”
When the charges were read to him, Ayuba pleaded guilty. He admitted spending the stolen money on second-hand clothes worth N300,000, giving some to friends and treating himself to various meals.
