A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a 20-year-old drug suspect, Muhammad Maharazu, to 15 years’ imprisonment for drug-related offences and attempting to attack operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during his arrest.

Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, ordering that the sentence take effect immediately with no option of fine.

The convict was arrested on February 14, 2026, at Filin Idi, a location identified by the agency as a notorious drug hub, where he was found in possession of illicit substances, including Diazepam tablets.

According to the NDLEA, Maharazu allegedly drew a knife while being pursued by operatives in a bid to resist arrest but was subdued and disarmed before being taken into custody.

Reacting, the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, through its commander, DY Lawal, described the judgment as a strong message against drug crimes and violence against law enforcement officers.

“We are grateful to the Federal High Court and Justice S.M. Shuaibu for this judgment. It shows that no amount of threats or violence will deter our officers from carrying out their lawful duties,” he said.
