A Police Inspector, Wakili Gideon, was on Friday sentenced to 5 years jail term by a Sabo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for using credit card to fraudulently withdraw the sum of N10,486,784.00 from the account of Nigeria Police Force Microfinance Bank without authority and converted the money to his use.

Magistrate Mrs. A. Salawu, however, said that a year would be subtracted from his jail term if the convicted police inspector could refund N5 million from the proceeds of the crime.

Trouble started for Wakili, after his arrest was ordered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Lawal Shehu following a petition by the management of the bank.

The convicted officer who was serving with the Borno Estate Police Command was first charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a one count charge of stealing.

The convicted police inspector committed the offence between December 17, 2018 and May 17, 2019 at the Nigeria Police Force Microfinance Bank in Lagos.
