The Court of Appeal has constituted 17 special panels of justices in the Port Harcourt division, Rivers State, to address pending cases.

The 17 panels comprising 51 justices from various divisions to attend to 357 appeals and 272 motions listed for hearing, will sit throughout the week at the court’s division and the high court complex.

The special sitting is part of the court’s 50th anniversary celebration, which was also used to commission the Court of Appeal Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre, Port Harcourt Division, built in honour of one of the long-serving justices of the court, Justice O.O. Daniel-Kalio and as a significant step in strengthening access to justice and promoting timely, efficient dispute resolution.

In her welcome address, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, described the occasion as a significant opportunity to reflect on the court’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s jurisprudence and to renew its commitment to the faithful discharge of its constitutional mandate in the service of justice and the nation.

Responding, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, Cordelia Uwaoma Eke, said it was with utmost humility that she welcomed the President of the Court of Appeal and the distinguished array of jurists to Port Harcourt.
