An Abuja Area Court sitting in Jiwa, Abuja, has issued a 90-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), as well as the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), to produce a fleeing housewife who is the defendant in a case.

At a resumed hearing on Wednesday, Barrister Abubakar Yahaya Ndakene, who represented one Ibrahim Yakubu, demanded the detention of the IGP and the CG for allegedly failing to respect the court’s order to their respective agencies.

The court had earlier issued an order to the two agencies to arrest and produce the first defendant, Maryam Kabir Dansitta, along with the child in her possession, before the court.

The court also ordered the NIS to confiscate and seize the Nigerian and American passports of the first defendant along with the child in her possession and deposit same before it.

The two agencies were said to have failed to obey the two orders.

The counsel, therefore, prayed the court to compel the NIS to compensate his client with N1.5m, being logistic cost, following the agency’s earlier objection about the court’s jurisdiction in the case, as well as updating him about ongoing efforts, if any, to locate her.

Responding, counsel to NIS, Barrister Kamal Buhari, who informed that he had since tendered an apology on behalf of the agency, sought more time to explore all avenues in producing the defendant, who he noted had escaped despite all efforts against that.

The Judge, Muhammad Sulyman Ola, then granted the 90-day grace to the police and the immigration service to produce the woman along with the child and adjourned the case to October 26.
