A Kano Magistrate court sitting at Gyadi-Gyadi quarters has ordered a primary 6 student (name withheld) to sweep its premises as a punishment for theft.

The student was arraigned before the court for a two count-charge of shop breaking and theft contrary to Sections 342 and 286 of the Penal Code Law.

The court heard that the matter was first reported to the police on February 18, 2018 by the owner of the shop, Muhammad Sani of Unguwa Uku quarters, Tarauni local government area of Kano state.

The complainant told the police the student had broken into his shop and carted away five empty gallons valued at N3, 500.00 and that exhibit was found on the accused person.

When the charge sheet was read to him, the accused person pleaded guilty to the two offenses.

In view of his admission, the presiding Judge, Senior Magistrate Hajara Garba ordered him to sweep the surrounding of the court for three hours as punishment before he was set free.
