A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the amount spent by President Muhammadu Buhari on medical trips cannot be released under the Freedom of Infornation Act.

Justice John Tsoho on Tuesday held that the information sought related to personal information of an elected person like Buhari, and which was exempted by Section 14(1)(b) of the FoI Act, 2011.

The judge also ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, could not be held liable for not disclosing the information on  the amount of money expended on President Buhari’s health as it transferred the request to the office of the President’s Chief of Staff.

A civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiatiative had filed the action following the President’s overseas medical trip in 2017.
