A court in Kano has ordered the remand of two individuals accused of spreading false information regarding the gruesome killings at Dorayi Chiranci—an incident that left a woman and her six children dead and deeply shocked residents of the state.

The suspects were ordered to remain in custody until February 4 when their trial is expected to continue. Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were duly arraigned on charges related to the dissemination of false and misleading information about the case.

Kiyawa made the disclosure in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.

According to the police, the actions of the suspects contributed to public confusion at a time when emotions remained high and investigations were still ongoing.

Investigators stated that the matter gained significant attention after a video featuring the suspects circulated widely on social media. In the footage, the individuals allegedly claimed to possess “insider knowledge” about the execution of the killings and arrests supposedly linked to the crime—claims the police insist are unfounded.

The police warned that the spread of unverified information, particularly concerning sensitive criminal investigations, can undermine public trust and hinder the delivery of justice.
