A Makurdi Magistrate Court on Wednesday ordered that two men who allegedly kidnapped a forensic accountant be remanded in a Nigerian Correctional Service facility.

The police charged Edwin Nwabueze and Simon Atim with three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

Magistrate Erdoo Ter, who did not take the plea of Nwabueze and Atim for the lack of jurisdiction adjourned the case until April 2 for further mention.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Regina Ishaya, told the court that Nwabueze and Atim were arrested by the ”Operation Zenda”, led by the Commander, CSP Justine Gberindyer, following an intelligence report.

She alleged that the suspects belonged to a gang of armed robbers/kidnappers, that attacked Mr Godfrey Agada, a forensic accountant with the Ministry of Finance, Makurdi.

She alleged that the suspects and four others, pulled the victim out of his vehicle and robbed him of N130,000 at gunpoint.

“They also took ATM cards of various banks, two laptops/accessories, cell phones and drove the victim to an unknown destination where he was held hostage for three days.

“The Operation Zenda stormed the kidnappers’ hideout and on sighting the police operational vehicle, they opened fire on the police,” he said.

Ishaya further said that five of the suspects, who were hit by bullets, while attempting to escape arrest, died on the way to hospital.

She further told the court that the kidnap victim was rescued unhurt. (NAN)
