A chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 32-year-old man, Omotoso Busayo, in the correctional centre over murder.

Police prosecutor Inspector Johnson Okunade told the court that the defendant was suspected to have committed the murder of Omolade Olasunkanmi, aka Omoemi, Samuel Oluwatimilehin, aka S.T. and four others, and was a member of Supreme Rite secret cult.

Inspector Okunade said the offence is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and Section 4 (1) of the Secret Cult Abolition Law 2017.

The prosecutor urged the court to allow him to duplicate the case file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

Attempt by counsel to the defendant, Barr O. J. Abiola, to persuade the court that the charges were concocted to remand his client did not convince the court.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti.

“The defendant is to be remanded in prison custody pending the issuance of DPP’s advice and I hereby adjourn the case till January 10, 2022,” he said.
