A magistrate court in Minna has ordered the remand of four people for alleged culpable homicide.

Muazu Ishaku, 20; Bulus Sule, 35; Doris Terem, 40 and Joy Bem, 28, were docked on two count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Ahmed Saidu, had told the court that one Abdullahi Saleh of Kafin Koro in Paikoro Local Government Area reported the matter on Feb. 11.

Saidu said the complainant alleged that the accused persons attacked his 20-year-old son for allegedly committing an offence of theft at a hotel in Kafin Koro.

According to him, they were said to have beaten the man into a state of coma, and that he later died while receiving treatment in a hospital.

He said the offences contravened sections 97 and 226 of the penal code law.

When the charges were read to the accused, they all pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mariam Kings, however, declined to take their plea on the grounds that her court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Kings ordered the police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and adjourned the matter until March 13 for further mention. (NAN)
