Court remands 4 over robbery, theft in Gombe

The Police in Gombe State have arraigned four men before a state magistrates’ court over alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and theft.

The first two accused persons, Musa Adamu (27) and Musa Abdullahi (28), were alleged to have conspired with one Bappa Sulaiman, now late, and attacked two hotels at Tumfure Quarters of the metropolis.

According to court documents, the accused had on February 1, armed with guns, attacked the first hotel and robbed guests of their phones and other valuables worth over N100, 000. 

The court also heard that the accused persons proceeded to another hotel in the same area, where they allegedly carted away property and a vehicle worth over N1.7m. 

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Habibu Danjuma Juwara, told the court that the offence contravened Sections 96 and 296 of the Penal Code.  

Insp. Juwara, however, added that the police was still investigating the case and waiting for legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice. 

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida, adjourned the case to April 25, and ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison.

Also in the same magistrate court, two men accused of stealing motorcycles and being in possession of fabricated keys have been arraigned.

The duo of Muhammad Aminu (21) and Sani Muhammad (27) were accused of fabricating keys and stealing motorcycles.

The court was told that sometime in January and February 2018, the two conspired with others and allegedly went to different banks in Gombe Metropolis and stole six motorcycles.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Habibu Danjuma, said two of the motorcycles, valued at N129,500 each, and fabricated keys were found in the possession of the accused persons.

Insp. Danjuma said the offence contravened Sections 96, 286, 319 (a) and 361 of the Penal Code.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to April 4 for further hearing.
