Court remands 4 over theft of cables

A magistrates’ court in Benúe State has ordered the remand of four men, Terhemba Andrew (32), Zungwen Samuel (24), Peter Terhemen (18) and Ali Aminu (27), in prison over alleged conspiracy, mischief and theft of armoured cables at the City Bay Park in Makurdi.

The First Information Report (FIR) indicated that Andrew and the three other defendants were arrested on July 19, 2024, on based on the allegations which contravened Sections 97, 317 and 327 of the Penal Code of Benue State.

The police stated that two of the accused were seen on a ladder disconnecting electricity from a pole transmitting power to City Bay Park and that they were not staff of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Kelvin Mbanongun, refused the oral bail application by the counsels to the defendants, Anagu Esq and Shie George, and ordered that they should file a formal bail application.

The magistrate, thereafter, ordered the remand of the defendants and adjourned the case to August 28, 2024.
