Court remands 7 over cultism in Edo

A high court sitting in Benin City, has remanded seven suspects in correctional centre over alleged involvement in the recent cult clash in Benin metropolis.

The suspects, Esosa Eregeorowo, Frank Obaze, Minister Godwin, Jeremiah Timothy, Jimoh Lasisi, Osasu Idehen and Idehen Marvis, were arraigned for conspiracy to commit murder, murder and membership of an unlawful society.

According to the charge sheet, the suspects were arrested in connection with the resurgence of cult-related clashes in Benin City.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges while the prosecutor asked the court to remand them in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Justice Ikponmwonba remanded the suspects pending the DPP advice.
