A 43 -year-old man, Usman Salawu, who allegedly robbed a motorcyclist at gunpoint, was yesterday in Lagos remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the orders of an Ikeja magistrates’ court.

While refusing the plea of the accused, the magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, ordered that he should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Salawu, a resident of Egbeda, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for conspiracy, stealing and robbery.

The accused committed the offences sometime in November at OshodI, Lagos, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court.

He said the accused and others still at large conspired to rob Mr Aliu Abubakar and Jalane Umar of their motorcycles.

“The accused and others approached the complainants, asking them to take them to a place and on getting there, they asked them to surrender their motorcycles.

“The complainants refused initially, but when the accused brought out a gun, they complied.

“Few weeks later, one of the complainants sighted the accused at the same spot where their motorcycles were robbed, trying to rob another man of his motorcycle.

“He ran to the station to report and the accused was immediately arrested while his accomplices escaped,” the prosecutor said.

The case was adjourned until Jan. 30 for mention. (NAN)
