Court remands man, 27, over armed robbery

A Makurdi upper area court on Tuesday remanded a 27-year-old man, Terhemba Astor, in prison custody for violently robbing a commercial motorcyclist of his bike with a lethal weapon.

Atsor of Ukave village, Ushongo Local Government Area, was arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt and armed robbery.

However, the magistrate, Mrs Rose Iyorshe, did not take the plea of the accused because her court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Iyorshe, consequently ordered the remand of the accused in Makurdi Medium Security Prison and adjourned the case to April 26 for further mention.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offences on March 5 at Tse Kucha village in Gboko Local Government Area.

Shaagee said investigation into matter was ongoing and requested for adjournment to enable the police complete it. (NAN)
