An Ado Ekiti chief magistrate court has remanded a 29-year-old man, Ayokunle Henry, in prison for alleged rape.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, told the court yesterday that Henry committed the offence on December 28, 2019 in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti Southwest local government.

Leranmo said the offence contravened Section 2(2) of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Amended Law 2019.

He alleged that the accused person took the victim, a 17-year-old girl, into a bush and raped her.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand Henry in prison pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The court did not take the plea of the accused person.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered that Henry should be remanded in prison pending the issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till February 3, 2020 for mention.
