Court remands man, 31, accused of armed robbery

An FCT High Court in Apo, yesterday, ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man accused of armed robbery.

The defendant, Akpan Archibong, of Gwagwalape by Aso Market, Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearm and trespass.

Police prosecutor, Donatus Abah, told the court through the charge that one Odeseye Olabisi, of Plot 338, Agwan Akim, Orozo, Abuja, reported the matter on July 16, 2018 to the police.

He said investigation found that the defendant and others now at large, armed with one locally made pistol, robbed Olabisi at his residence.

The defendant was said to have robbed Olabisi of his office bag before he was caught and a locally made pistol found in his possession. The defendant allegedly  criminally trespassed into the compound with the intention to rob.

When the charges where read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty. Following his plea, the trial judge, Justice Valentine Ashi, while adjourning the matter to March 26 for hearing, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kuje Prisons.

The judge also ordered the prosecutor to assemble all witnesses before the adjourned date.
