Court remands man, 33, over armed robbery, murder

An Ota Magistrate Court in Ogun, on Tuesday, remanded a 33-year-old man, Abiodun Moses, in a custodial centre over armed robbery and murder.

Moses, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of armed robbery, murder and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Cpl. E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others, still at large, committed the offences on Jan. 24 at about 2.00 pm. at Otapo, Odo-Eran, Ota.

Adaraloye said the defendant and his accomplices conspired to rob one Babatunde Oladipupo by using dangerous weapons to dispossess him of N300,000 and other valuable items.

He added that the defendant and his collaborators killed Oladipupo with a knife which they used in stabbing him in the chest in the process of robbing him.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 6(b), 319 and 324 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R 11, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending the advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till May 11 for DPP’s advice. (NAN)
