An Ado-Ekiti chief magistrates’ court has ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Ayodeji Abiola, at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over the murder of his mother.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court yesterday that the defendant committed the offence on January 11, in Ipole-Iloro Ekiti.
Inspector Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendant murdered his 75-year-old mother, Mrs Olaitan Abiola.
According to the statement of the defendant to the police, he had a misunderstanding with his mother and he hit her with a stick on her head, which led to her death.
The defendant later dumped her body in the bush.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till February 21 for mention.
