A Minna Chief Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, remanded a 50-year-old man, Salihu Audu, in prison pending the completion of police investigation into allegation of sodomy brought against him by the police.

Audu, an indigene of Kebbi State, who resides in Nasko in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, was arrested on July 20, by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for having carnal knowledge of two young boys aged 13 and 14 all of Nasko town.

The offence, according to the First Information Report (FIR) obtained by our correspondent yesterday in Minna is contrary to Section 284 of the Penal Code.

The police alleged that Audu confessed to have committed the offence and also admitted same when the offence was read to him during yesterday’s hearing even as he pleaded for clemency, as well as bail.

However, the Prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Mayaki, opposed the request for clemency and bail on the ground that the offence in question was a capital one and therefore, was not bailable.

The Magistrate, Hassan Mohammed, therefore, remanded the suspect pending the conclusion of police investigation and adjourned the case to August 24 for further hearing.
