An Ado-Ekiti magistrate court, on Monday, remanded a 60-year-old man, Samuel Orji, in prison over alleged rape of a 12-year-old minor.

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of rape.

The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 1 in Ire -Ekiti.

Akinwale told the court that the defendant lured the girl into his room by telling her to buy something for him and sexually assaulted her.

He informed the court that the victim was seriously brutalised in the vagina, resulting to bleeding and stitches of her private part.

Akinwale said the defendant confessed to the crime but noted that it was the victim that raped him. His plea was however not taken.

The magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, consequently remanded the defendant in prison and adjourned the case until May 22 for mention. (NAN)
