Zamfara: Judge declines jurisdiction to continue APC primaries case
An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Tuesday, remanded a 29-year-old Badmus Olawale in Ilesa prison custody for allegedly detaining and secretly camping a nine-year-old girl.
Olawale is facing a three-count charge bordering on unlawful detention and breach of public peace.
The magistrate, Mr Ola Olagoke, had ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody due to the magnitude of the alleged offence.
The prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4 at 1.30 p.m. at Dada Estate, Osogbo.
Abiodun said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to unlawfully detain and camp a nine-year-old girl, by disallowing her to have access to her freedom.
“The defendant detained and camped the little girl for one day before she was released; and later found by her parent.
“After thorough scrutiny by her parent, she was able to identify the defendant and where she was kept with the help of the police,” he said.
He said the incident led to a breach of public peace before the intervention of the police.
Abiodun said the offence contravened Sections 249 and 516 of the Criminal Code cap. 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defence counsel, Mr Kunle Ashiyanbi, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
The magistrate overruled the bail application by the defence counsel and ordered for a formal bail application on the next date of adjournment; April 30 for mention. (NAN)
