An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered that an alleged cultist, Jamiu Atolagbe alias Anto, be remanded in prison for allegedly hacking four men to death.

Atolagbe (24), a resident of 24 Sango Street, Ajah, appeared on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder and belonging and managing an unlawful society. His plea was not taken as the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Alex Komolafe, remanded him at the Ikoyi Prison and ordered that the case file be sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. Komolafe adjourned the case to June 5, 2019.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 15, 2019, at 4.45am at the General Paint Area, Ajah. He alleged that the defendant, an alleged member of Aiye Confraternity, had hacked four people to death whose identities were unknown as at the time the report was made.

Adams said the offences contravened Sections 41, 42, 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 223 stipulates death sentence for offenders.
