Court remands man in custodial centre for jumping bail

An Osogbo, Osun State, magistrate court Tuesday remanded a man, Razaq Sunday, in prison for jumping bail and failing to face his trial in court.

Police prosecutor Inspector Razaq Olayiwola told the court that Sunday committed the offence on June 3, 2020 at Magistrate Court 3, Oke-Fia, Osogbo.

Olayiwola said that Sunday absented himself from a court proceeding in Charge No. MOS/208/2020, an act the prosecutor alleged amounted to disrespect of the court.

The prosecutor said that the offence the defendant committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 133 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Sunday, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against him.

The magistrate, Mrs Module Awodele, ordered that the accused person be remanded at the Ilesa Custodial Centre, Osun State, and adjourned the case till June 17, 2020 for mention at Magistrate Court 3, Osogbo.
