A Magistrate Court sitting at Nomansland in Kano Municipality has ordered the remand of a 22-year-old man, Ibrahim Abubakar, in a correctional facility over alleged assault, inflicting injuries and possession of illicit drugs.
The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate Ibrahim Sarki Ibrahim by the state prosecutor, Fatima Ahmad Tijjani, while the court registrar, Saddam Idris Abdullahi, read the charges against him.
According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested by operatives of the Sheka police station during a routine patrol and was allegedly found in possession of illicit drugs and a pair of scissors.
When the charges were read, the accused pleaded guilty to the first and second counts but denied the third and fourth counts.
Following his plea, the prosecution applied to the court for leave to call witnesses in support of the charges denied by the defendant.
The presiding magistrate granted the application and ordered that the accused be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
The case was adjourned until June 17, 2026, for hearing.
