Court remands security guard, 63, over alleged sexual assault of 3-yr-old girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Tuesday ordered the remand of 63-year-old security guard, Olafy Michael, over alleged defiling of three-year-old girl.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, said the defendant should be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from office of the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send same to office of the DPP.

Emmanuel gave the order following an application by the Prosecutor, Asp. Chidi Oke, that the defendant
be remanded.

The magistrate then adjourned the matter until June 5 when the case would come up for mention.

Michael, who resides at School Close, Unguwan Romi in Kaduna, is facing one-count charge of act of gross indecency.

The prosecutor told the court that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sabon Tasha Police Station, Kaduna, transferred the matter to state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for more investigation on April 28.

He said the defendant lured the three-year-old girl into his apartment and sexually sexually assaulted her
with his fingers.

He added that “Michael sexually assaulted the three-year-old girl by penetrating her private part with his fingers.

“He was caught by neighbours, who arrested and took him to police station.”

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 260 of the Penal Code Laws of Kaduna State.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
