Court remands two market women for conspiracy, breach of trust

An Upper Area Court, Kasuwan Nama, Jos Thursday, remanded two market women for conspiracy and breach of trust against a woman who sells food items in Jos.
The suspects, Mrs.Grace Mbazu (45) and Christy Garba (38) were arraigned before Justice Lawal Suleiman, in a suit filed by the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Mr. Edward Ebuka.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), one Mrs. Joy Charles, had reported to Jos Area Command that in December 2020, that Mrs. Grace and Christy, have conspired and collected, one bag of crayfish, seven jerry cans of palm kernel, seven bags of rice and one bag of ogbono, totaling N322,500 and had not paid her the money.
But all the accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The defence counsel, Uche Ukeze, applied for their bail but was opposed by the prosecution counsel, Uchang Ibrahim, who said the accused had cheated his client and were in the habit of cheating people, claiming that they have done a similar thing before.
Having heard the submissions of both counsels, the judge remanded the accused in the Jos Correctional Centre, pending the hearing of the bail application on 20/01/2021.
The judge adjourned the matter to 18/2/2021, for a hearing in the substantive suit.
