A family magistrate court in Ogudu, Lagos State, has restrained one Mr. Jonathan Emoghase from coming anywhere close to his wife and mother of three, Janet Ojeikere, for the next 12 months over alleged incessant physical assault.

 The order, made available on Monday to newsmen by the office of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), stated that Emoghase risks three months imprisonment if he disobeys the court order.   

 According to the Director of the DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Ojeikere had in February this year reported a case of physical assault and threat to life she alleged her husband perpetrated.

 “She alleged that Mr. Jonathan has been physically assaulting her since she married him three years ago with the most recent incident being on January 24, 2017 in which the perpetrator repeatedly hit her with a stick while threatening to kill her,” Vivour-Adeniyi added.

 The incident was said to have occurred at No. 6 Funmilayo Close, Clemedu Awojaya, Ikeja.

 The director explained that the team referred the case to the family support unit of the Ketu police station which arrested the perpetrator and charged the matter to court.

 She said that Emoghase allegedly promised to kill his wife upon his release from jail, adding that as provided by the Prevention against Domestic Violence Law, 2007, she was applying for a restraining order, which magistrate Sule Amzat of the family court granted.
