A Kano State Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a man, Yusuf Saleh, to 17 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of armed robbery and causing grievous bodily harm to his victims.

The accused was prosecuted by Barrister Farida Wada Umar, counsel to the state, on a two-count charge of armed robbery and assault.

According to the prosecution, Saleh unlawfully entered the residences of Alhaji Umar Dahiru and Yusuf Maiyasin at Farawa village in Kano, where he carried out a violent robbery attack, dispossessing them of valuables and inflicting severe injuries on the victims.

The defence counsel, Barrister Asiya Imam, represented the accused during the trial.

However, the prosecution presented seven witnesses, all of whom testified and provided evidence linking the defendant to the crime.

After reviewing the testimonies and evidence, the presiding magistrate held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Saleh as charged.

The court thereafter sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment for the offence of armed robbery and an additional three years imprisonment for causing grievous harm, without the option of a fine.

Both sentences are to run consecutively.
