Court sentences man to 6 months imprisonment for bathing corpse

The Kano State High Court has sentenced a man to six months imprisonment for bathing the corpse of Nafiu Hafizu allegedly stabbed to death by a housewife, Hafsat Surajo.

Justice Faruk Lawan also ordered the convict, Adamu Muhammad, to pay a fine of N50,000.

The court ordered him to teach inmates a portion of the glorious Qur’an during his stay in prison.

It would be recalled that Hafsat Surajo, popularly called Chuchu, allegedly stabbed Nafiu, her domestic help and sought Malam Adamu Muhammad’s assistance to carry out the burial bath for the corpse.

When charges were read out to Hafsat Chuchu and her husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, she kept mute but her husband denied committing the offence.

When her counsel, Barrister Haruna Magashi, applied for the court to allow his client to go for medical evaluation, the prosecution counsel Halima Yahuza Ahmad objected to it.

The Presiding judge, Justice Faruk Lawan adjourned the case to June 20 for ruling.
