Death by Hanging

A High Court in Kano has sentenced a man, Umar Idris Farawa, to death by hanging for the murder of his friend, Sabiu Umar, in 2021.

The prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, called three witnesses who established that the convict attempted to steal marriage items (kayan lefe) from the deceased’s shop.

The court heard that the deceased confronted him, leading to a fight during which the convict stabbed him in the chest.

The victim later died in hospital.

The defendant called two witnesses in his defence.

Delivering judgment, Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the defendant accordingly.
