Court sentences Nigerien to death for killing woman, daughter in Kebbi

A Kebbi State High Court has sentenced a national of the Niger Republic, Suleiman Idris, to death by hanging for killing a woman and her daughter, Sadiya Idris and Khadiza Akilu, in April at Labana Quarters in Birnin Kebbi.

Justice Suleiman Mohammed Ambursa said the defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge of homicide punishable by death under Section 191 (a) and (b) of Kebbi State Penal Code 2021.

He said, “The accused is hereby found guilty for the offence beyond any reasonable doubt. He pleaded guilty in his confessional statement. He is therefore sentenced to death by hanging until he dies.”

Speaking to Daily Trust, counsel to the defendant, Barrister Suleiman Alhassan, said the law made a provision for appeal, but that it had not been decided.
