A High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, from publishing defamatory reports against Victor Egbetokun and his family.

The court’s decision was made in response to a defamation suit filed by the Egbetokuns, who alleged that Sowore and Sahara Reporters had published false and damaging statements against them.

According to the court order, Sowore and Sahara Reporters are barred from publishing any further defamatory content against Victor Egbetokun and his family pending the determination of the defamation suit.

The court’s decision is an interim injunction aimed at preventing further harm to the reputation of the Egbetokuns.

The case is ongoing, and the court will hear further arguments from both parties before making a final ruling.

Sowore had chronicled an alleged discussion which he had with one Jesam Michael, while being remanded at Kuje correctional facility.

In the said publication on Sahara Reporters, Sowore, alleged that the said Jesam alleged that the Nigeria Police Force enabled him to operate a Ponzi Scheme, which he called a multibillion naira criminal enterprise freely.

Reacting to the Court Order, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the Force decided to take legal step because the defendants, over time,have published a series of defamatory and derogatory claims based on fabricated falsehood.

“This step had to be taken because the defendants, over time, have published a series of defamatory and derogatory claims based on fabricated falsehood against the person, office, immediate staff, members of the family of the Inspector General of Police, as well as the Nigeria Police Force” he said.
