The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education has called on the state government to declare a state of emergency on Odo Obara Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Epe area of the state over poor facilities and insufficient safety measures against COVID-19.

Chairman of the Committee, Yinka Ogundimu, who made the call  during a visit to the schools to inspect the facilities put in place to prevent spread of COVID-19 as schools prepare to resume, noted that the handwashing points at the gate and two other points were insufficient for hundreds of students in the school.

The committee also decried the bad state of furniture and staff rooms in the school, while it called on the State’s Ministry of Education to as a matter of urgency visit and commence an immediate reconstruction of the school before the students resume.

The lawmaker also lamented that the hall of Odo Obara Senior High School was in a deplorable state and needed urgent rehabilitation.
