The Committee of FCT Imams Initiative (CFII) on Thursday in Abuja donated food items to Muslim faithful and residents in the six area councils of the FCT.

The chairman of the association, Tajudeen Adigun, said the measure was to ease the sufferings of the less privileged, especially with the lock down in the FCT due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday announced the lock down of the FCT, Lagos and Ogun states to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Imam Adigun, who led other Imams, including the Chief Imam of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS), Sheik Fuad Adeyemi, to supervise the distribution of the relief materials in the councils said the committee intends to get to the grassroots through their respective Imams.

According to him, apart from some cash tokens, a total of 180 bags of rice, distributed 30 bags per each council, some cartoons of groundnut oil and other condiments were distributed to the six Area Councils.

He said, “The Committee of FCT Imams Initiative is distributing these food items to the six Area Councils in the FCT to assist the less privileged in these trying times. We pray Allah will save the nation from this virus and other vices too, because the situation has affected all sectors of the economy and social life.”

At Kuje, the Chief Imam of Kuje Central Mosque, Imam Hussein Lawan thanked the committee for the gesture and promised to distribute the items to the poorest of the poor.

Also, the Secretary, League of Imams in Kuje, Malam Said Ishaq, urged all Muslim faithful to obey the stay at home order and continue to pray to Allah to overcome the pandemic.
