Scores of parents, teachers and proprietors of private schools, on Friday, protested against the continued closure of schools in Kwara State.

The protesters argued that the long closure of schools had ruined the lives of many of their wards, noting that many female children had been impregnated.

Holding placards, the protesters were at the office of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Ilorin, the state capital.

Addressing the protesters, NAPPS chairman in the state, Dr. Rahaman A. Lateef, said the association has held series of negotiations with the state government on safe reopening of schools and teachers’ welfare.

“NAPPS as the representative of private schools in the state has engaged the government and I am glad to tell you that the Ministry of Education has designed two school calendars and submitted same to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and anytime from now the governor will announce the reopening of schools in the state,” he said.

He advised the state government to announce the likely date of resumption so that schools in the state would heighten their preparation for it.
