Alhaji Abdullahi Angibi, the member representing Lafia Central Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday distributed food items worth N3 million to his constituents to cushion the effect of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic lockdown.

Angibi presented the items which included 150 bags of rice and 150 bags of millet to party leaders and elected councillor in Lafia for distribution to his constituents.

The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, warned against diversion of the palliative.

According to him, the palliative was his personal contribution to complement government’s efforts in the fight against the virus in the state.

“I want to advise the party leaders against diversion of any palliative meant to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the poor and vulnerable people.

“I have decided to provide these items in order to ameliorate the plight of my constituents,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the people of the state to adhere strictly to all government’s directives and precautionary measures such as regular handwashing with soap under running water, use of face masks and physical distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Deputy Speaker, Lafia Legislative Council, Hassan Baba-Rabbi, promised to ensure that the food items got to the targeted beneficiaries in all electoral wards.

He commended the lawmaker for the gesture and urged him not to relent in providing more dividends of democracy to his constituents. (NAN)
