Peter Tabichi, a Kenyan Maths/Physics teacher and 2019 Global Teacher Prize winner has joined other African Global Teacher Prize finalists to urge leaders in the African continent to deliver long term action on education for the continent amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tabichi was among 20 African Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize finalists who met through virtual platform, urging governments to provide solutions to delivering quality remote education where schools have been closed by coronavirus.
Some of Africa’s most inspiring teachers also urged governments to rule out any cuts to education budgets and review curricula when schools re-open.
The call to action followed a virtual summit on coronavirus and the future of education organised by the Varkey Foundation as a member of UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition.
