The United Arab Emirates (UEA) Embassy in Nigeria, on Saturday, donated 7.5 tonnes of medical supplies to the Federal government of Nigeria.
The consignment, which is part of the UAE’s efforts to support Nigeria’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, arrived Saturday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The shipment of the 7.5 tonnes Humanitarian Aid for Personal Protective Equipment consist of thousands of PPEs and medical equipment that will support the Nigeria’s COVID-19 response.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Charge D’Affaires of the UAE Embassy, Khalifa Al Mehrezi, reiterated the continuous support of the UAE to the Nigerian government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and its attending challenges.
“The UAE beliefs that concerted efforts across board is the key to effectively mitigating the socio-economic effect of the pandemic, hence the donation of this aid to boost the provision of adequate healthcare response in the management of the pandemic.
“The move is part of a series of humanitarian response operations carried out by the UAE to support brotherly and friendly countries to fight COVID-19.
“The UAE embassy has executed several humanitarian projects during this health crisis nonwithstanding and this is our way of assuring Nigeria that we will partner to effectively eradicate pandemic.
“We strongly commend the unrelenting efforts and excellent work of the Nigerian Government in curbing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Also, we salute all Nigerian frontline workers, doctors, nurses, educators and the media who are working tirelessly to overcome this pandemic,” Al Mehrezi said.
The consignments were received, on behalf of Nigeria, by Mrs. Olubukola Ajayi, the Director of Drug and Vaccine Development, Federal ministry of Health, who commended the gesture of the UEA Government and assured of judicious use of the medical consignments.
