Cow fattening is good business if you get it right
One of the major attractions at the just concluded national agricultural show was the four hefty bulls brought for exhibition by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Gombe State.
The biggest of the bulls is said to be worth N2.5 million while the remaining three are worth N2m each according to Abubakar Bappi, an official of the Gombe State branch of AFAN.
Speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday at the show ground along Abuja-Keffi Expressway, he said the breeds were carefully selected from the white Fulani cows, the Sokoto red cows and Friesian breeds. The biggest of them, however, is a breed that came from the white Fulani cows.
Alhaji Bappi said the cows were just two years old, adding that cattle fattening could be a lucrative business if the farmers gets it right.

The bulls were products of farmers under the AFAN umbrella who are in the business of cow fattening and who are ready to also provide training and sell to other intended farmers who want to get into the business of cow fattening.
He further said that feed for the cow could come from by-product of many crops in addition to farmers raising special grass as feed, which could make them look healthier.
He said he’s willing to help farmers who are looking for good breeds and to teach them best management practices that will enable them make the most of their business.
