The university was chosen along with two others – the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti – because of the brilliant performance of graduates of the universities in aptitude tests conducted for applicants into the company.
 Chairman of the company, Mr. Mr. J. S. Samuel, announced the donation when he paid a courtesy visit to the vice-chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali.  
 He disclosed that a green house can yield 170 tons of tomatoes worth N6 million to N8 million annually with 75 percent of the amount being profit.
Samuel said that the project, which would span about five years, would commence as soon as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed.
He said that he looked forward to the time agriculture would be the centre of attraction at the University of Ilorin and the symbol of the institution with its graduates owning a green house each and earning about N4 million per annum from agricultural ventures.
He noted that it is only agriculture that could directly teach the young ones the value of hard work, adding that the first invented technologies were about farming, as many car manufacturing brands started with tractors.
The chairman also said that no nation has ever developed without agriculture, adding that many countries only import food in time of war.
