Breakdown of police intelligence, massive deployment of criminals against few harmless people are among reasons given for the serial robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State.
The new commissioner of police in the state, Aminu Pai Saleh, who made the statement, added that connectivity of police with the people of the area was at a low ebb.
He added that in a bid to forestall further robbery incidents, officers in the command have been moved in a major shakeup.
When asked the whereabouts of the DPO of Offa police division where nine policemen were killed by armed robbers, Saleh said the police officer was in Offa, adding that he raised alarm and mobilized men.
He said it would be unfair to say that the DPO must be at a particular location at a particular time, when he has many stations to manage.
Speaking on the CCTV video footage of the robbery which went viral on social media, where armed robbers were seen shooting at one of the five banks, Saleh said he had not watched it, but added that he had watched the video where the hoodlums were seen showering themselves with champagne.
