The Director General of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) Onyeka Onwenu has called on the Nigerian youth to create job opportunities by looking into ways by which to meet the needs of the over 170 million Nigerians in the country.
The NCWD boss who made this known when she received an award from the Northern Youth Council for her contributions to youth development noted that jobs opportunities can be created from farming, sewing and anything that has to do with providing for a nation’s needs.
She however noted that though much has been done to improve the lot of the youths, it was obviously not enough as many still remain unemployed and yearning to be productive.
She said, “It is in our best interest to  assist the youths and ensure that their issues remain on the top burner of national discuss, because it makes absolute sense. We know how important the youths are to the nation.”
According to her the youths also need to look inwards and create employment by taking advantage of the huge population God has given us and create jobs around such regions.
She called on Nigerians to also be sympathetic towards the plight of their brothers and sisters who have lost their because of the insurgencies and are presently living in Internally Displaced Camps.
Earlier the president of the Northern Youth Council, Isa Abubakar called on the council to assist the youths in the north to restore some of its integrity by ensuring that most children out of school in the region are put back to schools.
He explained that the council really mobilized its members and other groups to ensure that the elections were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, but was quick to observe that the issues in the north was quite overwhelming.
He listed them to include issues of insurgencies in the North East which has left many homeless and hopeless and called for a vigorous approach to tackle the situation and save the lives of Nigerians.
He also raised concerns over early marriages which he pointed out that most girls are deprived of their childhood and forced into marriages that they are ill prepared for and get burdened with conditions like VVF.
