The new Nigeria has enormous potential of being one of the developed nations in the world, considering our God-given human and natural resources. In this 21st century, there is need to use collective effort to explore all available solutions to addressing our developmental problems which can be referred to as a peculiar problem which has to do with inadequate impact of our revenue/budgetary provisions on the developmental need of our communities and the nation at large.
This often occurs as a result of our inability to get a genuine assessment of ourselves via monitoring, evaluation, harmonization, prioritization on the developmental project in our communities by the stakeholders in the Nigerian project. Nigeria, being one of the largest producers of oil in the world today, has no excuse to be backward. As a public analyst who wishes my country well, I am forced to support the need for the creation of this agency.
As part from discovering patriotic and talented Nigerians with noble ideas that could move the country forward, I came across one Engineer Ilesanmi Adesemoye whose passion motivated him to put up a proposal for the creation of a national agency for project monitoring, evaluation and control as a necessary vehicle to check the stakeholders annual performance physically. While other Nigerians like him are busy pursuing NNPC and other government contracts, this devoted Nigerian COREN/NSE Certified Engineer is busy contributing his quota by initiating this worthwhile Idea that when implemented could move the country forward.
Like I always say, as citizens of our great country, we have contributions to make to her development and upliftment, we should not expect what the country can do for us, but what we can do for the country. Everyone today in Nigeria, except some few ones wants to be councilors, chairmen of local governments, members of both states and Federal Houses of Assembly, Senators, Governors and Ministers. How then do we move the country forward. When all citizens puts their mind set towards talent realization, prosperity and even development is it.
In the early Nigerian administrative days, there use to be checks and balances which is similar to Engineer Ilesanmi’s lofty ideas. I know that sometimes politicians do not succumb to these types of ideas, notwithstanding, all hands should be on deck to actualize the establishment of this agency. When child trafficking was on the increase at the onset of the then Obasanjo administration in 1999, an agency to tackle human trafficking known as NAPTIP was established. Today, the number of human trafficking related cases has dropped to minimal level. This should also apply to the establishment of the National Agency for projects monitoring, evaluation and control.
Take the state of infrastructure in the country for instance, we only hear huge billions of naira being appropriated for infrastructural facelift, sometimes you cannot physically see what this funds were meant for, and we have the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation. Corruption today is on the increase in the country simply because there are no strict measures to monitor projects implementation and certification.
