The vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, stated this while delivering a lecture entitled: “Girl-child Education and National Development,” in Lagos.
According to a statement from the university, signed by its public relations officer, Idris Katib, Gbajabiamila said: “Systematic exclusion of girls and women from schools and the labour force translates into a less educated work force, inefficient allocation of labour, lost productivity and consequently diminished progress in economic development.”
The statement said it was regrettable seeing Nigerian children, especially girls of young age, who were supposed to be in schools, hawking in traffic.  
It said that girls’ education is a strategic development investment which brings a wide range of benefits, not only for the girls themselves, but also for their children, communities and the society at large, expressing fear that Nigeria might not meet the MDG target of 2020.
It said that Crescent University has produced more first-class females than males, noting that the institution’s vision was to impact more on women in the society.
