The match played at the Abuja National Stadium Complex saw the Asian team, which was made up of Indians and Pakistanis living in Abuja, went in for the bating with 106 runs after winning the toss.

President of the Abuja Cricket Club, Emeka Onyema, took a wicket for his side, while another team mate, Mr. Omoboh, took two wickets to rattle the Asian team.

The Vice President of the club, Mr. Sumy Ajayi was one of the bowlers for his side, while Mr. Martins, an Indian, was one of the best bowlers for the Asians and took over 4 wickets in his 5 overs of bowler.

Mr. Reji, an Indian and the captain of his side gave the opponent a difficult time as he was everywhere on the pitch.

Speaking with Grassrootsports after the match, the President of Abuja Cricket Club, Emeka Onyema, said the match was staged in commemoration of their late colleague, Mr. Ragesh, who died in a fatal accident along Abuja-Kaduna expressway barely one year ago.

“It is our tradition in the club to always honour our departed colleagues by playing a match in his honour. Mr. Ragesh, an Indian, who was a very active member of Abuja Cricket Club, died a year ago in a motor accident and we are honouring him today with this match.

 “Apart from that the match was organised in line with the initiative of the Abuja Cricket Club to popularise the game in Nigeria and make it a household sport like it is in India, Pakistan and other cricket playing countries,” Onyema said.

He said the Abuja Cricket Club is working hand-in-hand with the Nigeria Cricket Association to ensure that “The catch-them-young programme aimed at reviving cricket in Nigeria produce fruits and remove the myth surrounding the sport in Nigeria. In order to keep the momentum alive, we have decided to be organizing matches like this.”
